A series of sessions led by dance artist Konstantina Skalionta open to anyone with interest in moving, improvising and performing, without any prior experience.  In every session, a safe, non- judgemental environment is created for participants to develop confidence in moving and performing, as well as in nurturing their creativity and imagination.

At the start of every session, participants are offered basic tools in improvising while being guided towards nurturing their own unique way of moving. As the session progresses, participants engage with materials and images, to explore movement that occurs from the activation of the senses, memory, and imagination. Free writing and drawing are often used as processes of recording and observing their unique movement experience.

The programme culminates towards a performance sharing by the participants.

The project is realised as part of the more than dancing programme by the Dance House Lefkosia.

Participation cost:

Per class: 12 euros

Four classes pass: 40 euros

*To try the class admission is free.

Three scholarships will be awarded those with low income, who wish to regularly attend the programme.

More about Konstantina:

Konstantina Skalionta is a dance artist currently living in Limassol (Cyprus). She is an alumna of Central School of Ballet (BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Performance, Choreography Prize, 2011) and the London Contemporary Dance School (MA in Contemporary Dance, 2018).

Her artistic research and practice, focuses onto exploring the body as landscape and visa versa, as well as the different narratives that emerge from the interaction between bodies and materials. Her performances, such as: We were promised a castle (2023), 8 days outside the promised castle (2022), Οnce There Was A Forest I & II  (2020 & 2021), #NoFilterNeeded (2019), Land(e)scape (2018), Be My Home (2016), In the Likeness of..(2015),  Beauty-fool(2014), have been presented as part of festivals, platforms and exhibitions and as independent productions in Cyprus, the UK and Italy.

Konstantina regularly teaches movement, dance improvisation and performance to adults in Lemesos since September 2022. She had been occasionally sharing her practice as part of programmes by the Dance House Lemesos and Lefkosia and has developed and delivered the workshop body and other landscapes, for the educational programme of Majestic State Gallery.

Since 2021, she joined the administrative board of New Movement of Dance Groups, Dancers and Choreographers of Cyprus as secretary and currently as president.

Α few words for the residency program at DH Lefkosia, More than Dancing: More than Dancing is a residency program organized by Dance House Lefkosia that focuses on events for non-artistic audiences through regular meetings from March to December 2024. Our aim is the inclusion of people interested in artistic engagement but have not had any interaction with dance or the Dance House yet.
