 Artistic and production landscapes in

contemporary dance and performance art

3-day workshop by Sara Živkovič Kranjc and Jernej Bizjak

Friday, 11th – Sunday, 13th of October 2024

10:00-17:00, Dancehouse Lefkosia

This intensive 3-day peer-to-peer workshop is designed out of the recognisable needs and wishes of (young) professionals (e.g. choreographers, dancers, performers, BA/MA/PhD students, pedagogues), who are in early stages of their career and are experiencing challenges as emerging professionals in performing arts.

I have an artistic idea and now what? How to move on in my artistic career? How to fully develop my project? How to create a healthy and caring artistic/production environment? How to reach potential partners? Whom to reach? How to better prepare a project for funding opportunities? How to find them? In what way can I enrich my professional experience? How to survive in the arts sector? Who am I as an artist? What is my artistic voice?

The workshop treats such questions and stumbling blocks as opportunities. It does not necessarily provide immediate answers or solutions (though in some cases it does!) but rather opens new perspectives or proposes ideas anew. The workshop aims to open various formats for participants to better grasp their past experiences and artistic decisions, to recognise their current position and artistic voice and to encourage them to shape their future path and artistic vision. Alongside, it informs them about the general artistic and production development of the field, guides and orients them to find existing possibilities and to create new ones by thinking, speaking, and moving outside the box.

Structure of the workshop

The workshop is conducted through a set of various practical individual, couple, and group tasks that stimulate and inspire participants to approach their projects from both, the artistic and production aspects. These assignments will touch upon different areas of work: artistic research, dramaturgical development, movement creation, production, orientation and networking in the dance ecosystem, funding and work opportunities.
