YOUTH IN ACTION

The Dance House Lefkosia and Marilena Kyriacou invite you to the second series of workshops for teenagers 16 to 18 years old, where identity, independence and self-understanding will be at the core of our experience. Teenagers will be encouraged to explore their place in society and the world at large by exploring concepts such as empathy, respect and consent. The aim is to create a safe environment where young people can develop skills and strengthen their personal autonomy. Non-formal learning activities and various art forms such as theatre, film, dance, music, etc. will be used.

Duration: September – December 2024 (two meetings per month, in total 8 – detailed program will be provided later on)

Marilena Kyriacou is an actress, theatre practitioner, youth educator and activist from Nicosia, Cyprus (1989). She has led and participated in over 50 bi-communal, multi-communal and multi-cultural projects in cooperation with the European Parliament Office in Cyprus, Peace players Cyprus, the Historical Dialogue and Research Group (AHDR), the Home of Cooperation (H4C) and other NGOs working for peace and unification of the island. She specializes in designing and implementing workshops on topics related to peace education, human rights, LGBTQ+ rights and social inclusion using theatre and non-formal education tools. She has also participated in various theatre and artistic productions. She is one of the founders and co-producers of the queer podcast Ta Adespota and co-organizer of queer open mic events as a member of the Queer Collective Cy. Currently, she teaches theatre at the English School of Kyrenia.

Α few words for the residency program at DH Lefkosia, More than Dancing: More than Dancing is a residency program organized by Dance House Lefkosia that focuses on events for non-artistic audiences through regular meetings from March to December 2024. Our aim is the inclusion of people interested in artistic engagement but have not had any interaction with dance or the Dance House yet.
